Week 21

Just wanted to do a quick update! Today we went to have a 3D ultrasound and got to finally see our little man's face. It was amazing. Hope you enjoy as much as we did!

Week 20

Here we are at 20 weeks. Half way there! I can't believe how fast it is going. I want to enjoy and remember every moment of this process. It has been so amazing. In the last couple of weeks I have been able to feel and see him kicking inside my belly. He even has a schedule already. He is wide awake first thing in the morning and and then again right before bed. It is so much fun to lay there and feel him move around. Jake can even see and feel it now. It has been so much fun.

We went in for our 20 week ultrasound this past week and got some neat pictures. We also videotaped the entire ultrasound. I pulled some clips from the video and made a short video for you to watch. The doctor said that he looks great and that he is growing perfectly!

Next week we are going in for a 3D ultrasound. We decided to treat ourselves and get a really good look at our little guy. It was a bit expensive (insurance does not cover it), but I think it will be so worth it! I can't wait to see him again. I think I go through baby withdrawals between ultrasound appointments. I just want to see him all the time. :-) Don't worry, we will post a bunch of stuff from the 3D session so that you can see him again too.

17 Weeks!

We have made it to week 17, and it has been a VERY busy couple of weeks. The baby and the belly have grown quite a bit in the last couple of weeks. A couple of days ago, Jake and i felt teeny tiny little kicks. They are so hard to feel right now, but they are there for sure. We can't wait to feel him move more often. :-) It is so amazing.

As for me, I feel pretty awesome. The second trimester had been so much easier. I am a happy girl as long as my days are planned around FOOD! I am so hungry ALL of the time! It is amazing how much food this baby seems to want right now.

Jake has officially finished school for the summer, and I finished up my first year of teaching last Friday. It was such a busy and exciting week. The sixth graders have a tradition to make clay tiles that represent them and then they hang them on the wall in the cafeteria as part of sixth grade graduation. Being the art teacher, I was responsible for helping the 65 sixth graders create and finish their clay tiles before graduation. It was incredibly stressful. I even recruited my parents and Jake for a couple of weekend work days to get ALL of the clay tiles cut for the students. In the end the tiles turned out so well. The principal told me that they are the best clay tiles they have ever put up on the wall. The cool thing is that the tiles will stay there forever, so the students can always come back and see their tile. So last Friday the clay tiles were installed. I then left school early to race over to DU for my own graduation. I Graduated from DU with a Masters in Art Education. This is by far the graduation that I am most proud of. SO many wonderful people came to celebrate the day with me...

Just got through two more appointments with the doctor, including the NT scan (the scan for disorders such as Down Syndrome.) Everything looks great so far! Also, we got a real good look at the baby...and lo and behold...there was something peeking out between the legs. The doctor is almost positive that we are having a little boy! When looking at the picture below, the two white lines are the femurs (back of the thighs), and right between them you will see a little "hot dog" as the doctor called it. Given, he is hung like a bumblebee right now, you may need to look close. It's there, promise! :-) We are so excited.
Sometime soon, Jake will need to go in and have some blood tests done because of his Jewish heritage. Apparently the Ashkanazi Jews carried quite a few genetic problems, not that Jake hasn't already had his fair share of problems. We just want to make sure that nothing bad is passed on to the little man. We are also going to schedule an echo-cardiogram for the baby since Jake was also blessed with a congenital heart defect that was surgically fixed about 6 years ago. We aren't too concerned because so far the baby has had a very strong heartbeat. Keep your fingers crossed.

We have hit week 13! Things have been a bit crazy. Jake has 2 weeks left of school, so he has been loaded down with grading. I have 4 weeks left, and can't believe that I survived my firat year of teaching! Woohooo! That is definitely something to celebrate. On June 5th I will officially graduate with my Masters Degree, one more thing to really celebrate. Jake is working to finish his Masters by the end of June. I can't believe how much we have done this year. Why not throw a baby into the mix right? Anyway, things have ben so busy. I think a little too busy because I came down with a pretty horrible head cold a couple of days agao. I thought head colds sucked before. Being sick while pregnant is the WORST! You can;t take anything to relieve...anything! You have to pretty much suck it up and push through it. I finally got the okay today to use nose spray and tylenol. Thank God!!!! Not fun though. I guess it was inevitable with all the little kid germs I am around each day. There is really no escaping it. Like I said, 4 WEEKS LEFT, and it is over.

We are getting really excited for everything to be over bacause we have an amazing vacation planned for July. We figured we needed one last vacation, just the 2 of us, before the baby comes. Jake's brother Matt and his wife Tracey live on the Sunshine Coast in Australia. here is a picture of where we are going:
We are going to be out there for about 2 and a half weeks. We are so excited to spend time with Matt and Trace and to see the beautiful Sunshine Coast. We couldn't ask for a better vacation for the summer.

On the baby front, we have 2 appointments this coming week. First we have our regular 13 week appointment with our OB. The following morning we will be going back to have our NT Scan done, which checks for genetic disorders. It will be nice to have that one over with and to receive good results. It is a little scary, but it needs to be done. The best part about it is that we will get to see the baby quite a bit this week. :-) W are so excited to see the change from last time. I have a sneaking suspicion that things have changed in the last 4 weeks. We will update later this week! Wish us luck!

11 Weeks!!!

Yup, Wifey is quite proud of that little baby bump. After 11 grueling weeks of whining and complaining, Alex is starting to get adjusted to the pregnancy. And, I have almost stopped that whining and complaining...

We had our 9 week ultrasound today..and it was amazing. We have gone from a tiny jellybean shaped baby to an adorable gummy bear shaped baby...mmmmm... gummy bears sound good. :-) Anyway, we went to make sure that everything was going as it should, and wow, it was amazing to see the difference from 2 weeks ago. The baby was wiggling it's body, waving its arms and legs all over the place. It brought me to tears. We also heard the heartbeat again, and it was strong and fast, just as it should be. Wow, what an experience. There is nothing like it.

I also started announcing our news to the staff at work. It is amazing how fast news travels. Monday I had a 3rd grade class come in and bombard me with hugs. "Congratulations Mrs. Sabot!" "Is there really a baby in your tummy right now?" "You are too skinny to have a baby in there!" "Is it a boy or girl?" "Can we help you pick a name?" By the end of class on Monday I had 6 different lists of possible names for Baby Sabot, most of which were taken from the book/movie "Twilight." One girl even gave me a handmade card with a drawing of "Mr. and Mrs. Sabot's baby" and on the back was her home phone number. She informed me that she had written her number down so that I could call her when I knew if I was having a boy or girl. So cute.

Well, we are officially at week 8, almost to week 9, and I just can't believe how fast it is flying by. It was so amazing to see the baby and hear the heartbeat last week. We are so excited for the next appointment so that we can see how much he/she has changed.

Week 8 was also my first week back to school after a 2 week spring break! The break was amazing, but it was nice to get back into my routine. I was starting to love my long naps a little too much. :-) By the end of the week I started feeling pretty uncomfortable in my pants. Hehe...that sounds funny. But seriously, I found that I was needing to unbutton my pants whenever I was going to sit. Time for some new clothes I guess. I am also feeling the pregnancy side effects at full force. Let's just say it is hard to teach when you feel like you are going to puke every 5 minutes. Oh well, it is all worth it! I am just hoping that the yucky feeling will pass soon.

As for Jake, Frankie gave him a book called "Pregnancy Sucks For Men" in the hopes that it would help him understand everything that is going on with the pregnancy. Even though the book makes me out to be a crazy, angry, beached whale, it is quite hilarious. It has become our evening ritual to flip it open and read about the terrifying side effects of pregnancy for both men and women. It has been quite entertaining. Here is jake trying to find a justification for his sympathy weight... :-)

It is official, there is a tiny little heart thumping in there. We went to the OBGYN and had our first ultrasound. While the doctor was probing me with his magic wand we saw all sorts of things that we could not understand. However, it was clear that we are pregnant with some sort of jelly bean shaped amoeba. Jake seems to think that comes from my side of the family. :-) Jake's side of the family, the Ashkenazi clan of Jews, may have contributed all sorts of fun genetic problems. However, the rest of the Sabot family is extremely healthy and we have no reason to believe that our little one will be any different! Other than that, the doctor said that everything looks great. We will be going back in two weeks for another ultrasound and we should be able to see its flippers and if we are lucky, we will see the little tadpole's tail.

Week 7 has been a little interesting...nauseous, bloating, fatigue. Jake wants me to add that I have been "floating air biscuits so BAD that even Jumby runs away." Wow, sorry for sharing that. Once again we are posting an update from the belly cam, and Jumby wanted to show off his gut as well.

HOMELAND SECURITY:
We have hired the "big guns" as added security in this fragile time...just try to get past this unparalleled defense system that is Jumby and his feisty sidekick Mia.

5 Weeks and counting...

"He shoots, he SCOOOORES!" as Jay Stickney would say...

On Februrary 9th we got the POSITIVE feedback from the magical pee stick! I went to the doctor and they confirmed that I was in fact pregnant! Two days earlier, Frankie and Michelle passed on a small wooden "Fertility Goddess" and damn if that thing doesn't get the job done. Within a couple of days, and multiple pee sticks later, "wifey was knocked up" as Jake explains it. We are so excited, and a bit terrified, as we begin this arduous journey to parenthood. We will keep you posted on the little one's progress.
